Global Internet Performance Conference (GIPC), San Francisco, Calif., — June 10, 2002 — At the opening of its third annual Global Internet Performance Conference, Keynote Systems (Nasdaq:KEYN) today announced the introduction of Transaction Perspective™ 4.0, a major advance in its Web transaction performance benchmarking service which adds enhanced features for deep diagnostics and in-depth measurement detail for every component of every page of a Web transaction.

The new version is targeted for use by operations groups within an enterprise that are charged with maintaining peak performance and availability of high-value, mission-critical transaction applications worldwide. It allows transaction performance problems to be quickly and effectively identified, triaged, diagnosed and repaired mitigating bottom-line business impact.

The new features of Transaction Perspective 4.0 are designed specifically for customers who need to obtain end-to-end performance benchmarking data for multi-page transactions, do fast diagnosis to quickly correct performance-related problems and reduce time to corrective action.

With the release of this service, Keynote enhances the operational importance of its transaction benchmarking service to now include network level components, as well as tailored graphs and reports showing page-element level details to make problem isolation faster and easier.

Transaction Perspective 4.0 underscores Keynote's leadership position as the benchmarking leader with over 80% market share and is part of Keynote's "Total Performance Management" strategy for benchmarking, testing and managing the end-to-end performance of e-business applications and systems outlined today (see separate press release).

"Customers are becoming more concerned with the business value of their operations and demanding greater value in terms of diagnostics, results and return on investment as well as ease of use," said Arnold Waldstein, vice president of marketing and business development for Keynote. "Keynote's ‘Total Performance Management' solutions and services-based approach enables customers to leverage existing management software, increase the number of satisfied customers, reduce unnecessary capital expenditures, gain competitive advantage and deliver an optimal quality of experience to end users."

By leveraging Keynote's globally distributed infrastructure of measurement computers, Keynote's benchmarking services provide enterprises with the precision and detail they need to compare and trend total performance, enforce service level agreements (SLAs) and detect, diagnose and repair end-to-end performance problems in their e-business infrastructure.

"Keynote alerts let us know about performance problems long before they impact our customers and identify if those problems are regional or more widespread," said Chris D'Agostino, e-Commerce development manager, Boise Cascade Office Solutions. "The more data and drill down we have, the better we can address the issues, which makes the new deep diagnostic features of Transaction Perspective 4.0 valuable tools for us."

By simulating end user experience, Transaction Perspective allows users to isolate and diagnose problems as well as benchmark performance, analyze trends, compare performance to competitors and identify performance bottlenecks inside and outside the firewall - providing a full-spectrum view of speed, availability and reliability.

What's New in Keynote Transaction Perspective 4.0

Transaction Perspective 4.0 is a major enhancement to Keynote's transaction benchmarking service. It provides faster, more easily understood analysis and problem isolation by using not only consistent nomenclature between Keynote Web Site Perspective™ and Transaction Perspective, but also common industry standard terms. Now anyone in a data center can understand what is being reported and take action, increasing staff competency and reducing training time.

Keynote's proprietary Interceptor technology allows very detailed network level diagnosis so customers are able to abstract out network problems from application problems. Interceptor technology leverages not only Internet Explorer but also WinSock and WinInet level communications to allow diagnosis to be as detailed as needed and give a more granular picture of what is occurring behind the scene several levels down. Transaction Perspective 4.0 is the first Keynote service to use this important technology.

Transaction Perspective 4.0 integrates all the new operation and diagnostic features of Keynote Web Site Perspective™ 6.0, introduced in March 2002 (http://www.keynote.come/press/html/02march19.html), plus adds features specifically for the needs of customers who must measure and diagnose performance problems in multi-page transactions.

  • Network Level Detail, including DNS, Initial Connection, SSL, Redirection, Request Time, First Byte Download and Base Page Download.
  • Redirection is broken out into its constituent redirects.
  • SSL Handshake time is measured and reported separately.
  • Element Level Detail, including images, plugins and applets. Elements downloaded as part of JavaScript execution are also captured for Content Errors.
  • All HTTP, WinInet and DNS errors are captured for the base page and elements.
  • Advanced Script Resiliency; the agent adapts to changing Web page content for uninterrupted and stable transaction measurement over a long period of time.
  • Advanced Cookie Support, including support for MSN Passport.
  • Plug-in Support for transactions that interact with applications such as Flash and ActiveX.
  • Error Keyword Search.
  • 24 hour Provisioning of new scripts.
  • Real time data feed provides timely data for integration with existing operational tools and systems to allow real-time alerting and notification.
