Global Internet Performance Conference (GIPC), San Francisco, Calif., — June 10, 2002 — At the opening of its third annual Global Internet Performance Conference, Keynote Systems (Nasdaq:KEYN) today announced the immediate availability of Keynote Wireless Perspective™ 2.0, a major enhancement to its Wireless Perspective benchmarking service adding new functionality to simplify the diagnosis, interpretation and correlation of wireless performance data across all large carrier networks.
Wireless Perspective 2.0 is the only benchmarking service to provide availability and performance measurement for WAP and SMS multi-step transactions as well as ring tone and picture graphic downloads and support for inter-carrier messaging.
Wireless Perspective 2.0 provides the performance measurement tools customers need to assure the highest availability and performance of critical wireless transactions and pinpoint performance problems with Short Message Service (SMS) messages sent between wireless networks. The new service enables large enterprises, wireless carriers and content providers in the United States and Europe to ensure quality of service across multiple wireless networks, improve the performance and decrease the cost of managing complex wireless data applications.
As part of Keynote's ‘Total Performance Management' strategy outlined today (see separate press release) and as new technologies emerge and gain acceptance in the marketplace, Wireless Perspective 2.0 adds to and underscores Keynote's leadership position as the benchmarking leader with over 80% market share. Keynote ‘Total Performance Management' is comprised of complete end-to-end solutions delivered by Keynote and KeyPartners™ for benchmarking, testing and managing the end-to-end performance of e-business applications and systems.
Using Wireless Perspective, enterprise customers can improve ROI on wireless data investments, decrease lost transactions, increase customer satisfaction and reduce support costs. They can test and evaluate wireless network options to determine which is best suited for their applications; and determine the source of problems, whether in the wireless carrier network, the Internet infrastructure, or the application service provider (ASP).
"Wireless technology adds more layers of complexity and new challenges for IT staffs who support enterprise messaging," said Bill Gassman, senior analyst at Gartner. "As that technology is integrated into critical business processes, it is imperative that management tools and processes be adopted that are specifically designed to address the new environment."
"With the added support of new wireless applications including inter-carrier messaging and transaction support, Keynote is once again taking the lead in providing the services that our customers need to remain competitive and provide excellent customer service," said Matt Parks, director of product management at Keynote. "Wireless Perspective 2.0 gives large enterprises, wireless carriers and content providers an extremely useful service to improve the quality and speed adoption of new wireless applications."
Keynote also announced the availability of two new Wireless Perspective subscription packages, Wireless Perspective Carrier Edition and Wireless Perspective Enterprise Edition designed to address the unique performance needs of wireless carriers and enterprises who support wireless applications.
In addition, a subscription- based service is now available for the Keynote Wireless SMS Index. The index, which gives customers an overall snapshot of industry performance available nowhere else, tracks the average response time and availability for short message service (SMS) messages which are sent and received through six U.S. Wireless networks including AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, Nextel, Sprint PCS, Verizon Wireless and Voicestream Wireless and provides a level of granularity made possible by leveraging Keynote's large infrastructure of globally distributed measurement computers.
About Keynote Wireless Perspective 2.0
Keynote Wireless Perspective, which is built from the ground up to measure wireless data services from the end-user perspective, provides real-time geographically distributed monitoring across all major wireless networks in the U.S. and Europe and uses actual mobile devices to accurately measure true end user experience. Performance measurements can be conducted from a wide variety of wireless devices including wireless handhelds, interactive pagers and mobile phones. The distributed measurement network covers five cities in the United States and four international locations.
Keynote Wireless Perspective uses two wireless performance measurement methodologies: real-time geographically distributed monitoring from actual subscriber equipment, including: wireless handhelds, interactive pagers and mobile phones; as well as PC simulations. Together, the two methodologies provide an accurate and representative view of wireless application and network performance. With both approaches integrated from a single vendor, customers can compare the results from each and easily identify the latency caused by mobile devices and wireless networks, set appropriate alarm thresholds and use this data to create and enforce service level agreements (SLA) with providers.
Wireless Perspective supports GSM, CDMA, CDPD, and GPRS networks with monitoring capabilities from over 25 devices including wireless handhelds, interactive pagers, SMS and WAP phones.
The New Features for Wireless Perspective 2.0 Include:
