REDWOOD SHORES, CA — July 23, 2002 — Entrepreneurs Foundation today announced Keynote Systems as the Company of the Year (COTY) at its third annual "Powered by EF" recognition luncheon and award ceremony at the Pacific Athletic Club in Redwood Shores. Other award winners included Homestead Technologies, Inc., winner of the Impact Award and Pixim, Inc., winner of the Rookie Award.
The Entrepreneurs Foundation community involvement awards are given annually to participating companies that best represent the mission of the Entrepreneurs Foundation – To enhance the Bay Area by creating a culture of community involvement and philanthropy within entrepreneurial companies. The COTY Award is given to the company that, through its activities and partnerships during the previous calendar year, clearly demonstrates its commitment to philanthropic and community involvement programs as part of their core business values.
"We are honored and excited to be named the 2002 COTY winner by the Entrepreneurs Foundation," said John Flavio, CFO of Keynote. "Entrepreneurs Foundation has helped us become more responsible corporate citizens by developing community involvement programs that aided our community and gave satisfaction to our employees."
John Dean, chairman of Silicon Valley Bank and member of the Board of Directors of the Entrepreneurs Foundation, served as the keynote speaker for the event. Lucy Reid, president and CEO of Bigstep – last year's winner of the COTY Award, will host the awards presentation. A special panel presentation will include Andrew Beebe, founder and chairman of Bigstep; John Flavio, CFO of Keynote Systems; Lisa McCormack, vice president of human resources for Lightspeed Semiconductor; and Kathy Zwickert, senior director of human resources for Keynote Systems.
"Entrepreneurs Foundation's vision is to enhance the Bay Area through catalyzing the philanthropic efforts of more than 500 engaged companies, thousands of individual employees in partnership with the scores of non-profits they serve," said Steve Scheier, president of Entrepreneurs Foundation. "Congratulations to all the companies and individuals recognized today for directly impacting the community and making a difference," Scheier concluded.
This is the first year two new awards have been added to the community involvement honors: The Rookie award was given to Pixim's President and CEO, Bob Wienschenk in its first year with the Entrepreneurs Foundation. Pixim has made the most strides toward educating its employee base and making a commitment felt in the community. "On behalf of everyone at Pixim, I am honored to accept the Rookie award for the most outstanding community involvement program in its first year. Corporate giving in our neighborhood is an important value to the Pixim team, and our activities through Entrepreneur's Foundation have allowed us the honor and privilege to give something back to the community," said Bob Weinschenk.
The Impact Award was presented to Mona Bergevin, vice president, administration and human resources for Homestead on behalf of Justin Kitch, CEO and co-founder. Homestead's philanthropy and community involvement programs have grown in depth and significance over the past seven years and set a great example for how growing entrepreneurial companies can make a positive and lasting impact. "Since Homestead was founded we've believed that we have a duty to participate in and better the communities in which we work and live," said Bergevin. "We are honored that our efforts have been noticed and recognized by the Entrepreneurs Foundation."
Sponsors of the third annual "Powered by EF" community involvement recognition luncheon and award ceremony include Mayfield, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati Foundation and Silicon Valley Business Inc.
