NEW YORK CITY, Global Internet Performance Conference — October 27, 2003 — Keynote Systems (Nasdaq: KEYN), the worldwide leader in Web performance measurement and management services, today announced the immediate availability of Keynote Wireless Perspective® 3.0, an enhanced version of its wireless performance service that introduces support for camera phones, Push To Talk (PTT) and Multimedia Message service (MMS) for all major wireless networks in the U.S. and Europe.
Keynote Wireless Perspective is targeted at wireless network operators and wireless content providers enabling them to measure, manage and optimize the performance of emerging wireless data services. Wireless Perspective 3.0 is the only performance monitoring solution available on the market today to measure the end-to-end performance of PTT and MMS services offered by wireless network operators.
The new service underscores Keynote’s commitment to bring enterprise customers Total Performance Management (TPM) through a growing portfolio of cost-effective Web performance measurement and management services. The overarching goal of TPM is to enable the enterprise to efficiently link IT resources to e-business goals.
Keynote Wireless Perspective 3.0 addresses the unique problems and challenges presented by new data services and provides wireless network operators with the performance data they need to provide consistent and reliable performance to their customers. Wireless Perspective 3.0 measurements, for the first time, provide wireless network operators with visibility into the performance of MMS once a message leaves their network and of PTT performance within their own network, including the time to establish a PTT connection, voice quality of the connection and group calling features. Using Wireless Perspective 3.0, carriers can monitor and assure the end-to-end performance of PTT and MMS services including camera phones, ring tones and downloadable screensavers.
Currently only about 8.2% of mobile phone subscribers in the US are PTT users, but with the growing interest from wireless network operators and handset manufacturers in the service, eMarketer estimates that by 2005, nearly 10% of all US mobile phone users will be PTT users. This equates to a rise from 11.5 million in 2002 to 16.6 million in 2005. IDC projects there will be 67 million MMS subscribers with camera phones by 2007.
“The rapid expansion of this emerging and highly competitive market speaks to the real need for performance and reliability monitoring to avoid the potential for significant loss of revenue for the carriers, as well as the continuing need to improve that performance,” said Chuck Mount, general manager of Keynote’s wireless division. “Now that MMS and PTT services are a reality, adoption by consumers will depend largely on the quality of service that the carriers provide. With the rollout of Wireless Perspective 3.0, Keynote continues its commitment to our customers to provide measurement and management services which fit their needs as technology advances.”
