Keynote Wins Prestigious Philanthropy Award from Arts Council Silicon Valley

  • ABBY Award Recognizes Keynote’s Financial and Employee Participation in Turnbull Academy “Arts in Action” Program
  • Keynote Nominated by Entrepreneurs Foundation and Turnbull Learning Academy

SAN MATEO, Calif., — May 14, 2004 — On Friday, May 7, the Arts Council Silicon Valley awarded Keynote Systems (Nasdaq “KEYN”), the worldwide leader in Web performance measurement and management services, the prestigious ABBY award for “First Time Business Support” in recognition of Keynote’s work with the Turnbull Learning Academy in San Mateo, California. Keynote underwrote the cost of “Art in Action”, a structured art program for K-5 classrooms at Turnbull Learning Academy. Keynote employees also sponsored an art supply drive within the company and employees work as volunteers in the art classes at Turnbull. The Entrepreneurs Foundation and Turnbull Learning Academy nominated Keynote for the award.

The Arts Council Silicon Valley is dedicated to creating and fostering a dynamic local arts environment by providing funding, advocacy and technical support services to the region’s arts organizations and artists. Each year the council recognizes companies and individuals who have inspired the Silicon Valley region with their vision, commitment and leadership in supporting the arts. The drastic budget cuts that most communities have been forced to make have impacted art and music programs in schools in a dramatic way. It is especially urgent, therefore, to support those programs in other ways.

“The public recognition from the Arts Council is a gratifying tribute to Keynote employees who generously donate their time and money to many worthy causes around the Valley, “said Umang Gupta, chairman and CEO of Keynote. “We strive to maintain a corporate culture, which allows our employees outlets for community service so that we, as a company, and they, as individuals, can make a difference. The assistance of the Entrepreneurs Foundation has been an invaluable asset in helping us to establish and maintain our community outreach program. We thank the Foundation and the Turnbull Academy for nominating us and the Arts Council for awarding us this honor.”

“Keynote has always encouraged its employees to seek balance between personal and professional endeavors by contributing both time and resources to worthy causes in our community. With the help of the Entrepreneurs Foundation, Keynote has been able to involve itself and its employees in many wonderful philanthropic causes,” said Peter Maloney, CFO of Keynote. “Turnbull, however, is an important project. In tough economic times one of the first programs to be cut in schools is art and music. Keynote’s contribution in money and art supplies to Turnbull, and the hours of volunteer time our employee’s have spent to tutor the students has been returned ten fold to us in the joy we see on the faces of the children we help.”

“Keynote has taken a comprehensive approach to supporting art education at the Turnbull learning Academy,” Diane Solinger, executive director, The Entrepreneurs Foundation. “The company provides financial resources, allows employees to volunteer in the classroom on company time and hosts art supply drives for the school. Entrepreneurs Foundation applauds Keynote for its efforts to assure that the arts remain a part of learning at Turnbull.”
