Keynote’s New Network Perspective Service Provides Enterprise Customers with a Powerful ISP SLA Compliance Platform

New Service Provides Automated Analysis and Allows Collaborative Problem Resolution

  • Network Perspective Allows Enterprises to Collaborate with ISPs to Resolve Internet Performance Issues Faster Without Diverting Operational Resources; Ensures ISPs Meet Service Level Agreements
  • Worldwide Network of Keynote Measurement Computers Provide Detailed Performance Statistics and Diagnostics on Internet Transit Time
  • 25 Hours Required, on Average to Resolve Web Performance Issues; Average Cost of Downtime is $18,500 Per Hour, According to Newport Group

SAN MATEO, Calif., — August 4, 2004 — Keynote (Nasdaq “KEYN”), the worldwide leader in Web performance measurement and management services, introduced a powerful new version of its Network Perspective® service today for companies to ensure ISP Service Level Management (SLM). By significantly increasing the monitoring frequency of the previous version of the service, Keynote is addressing the growing need for large enterprises to obtain the levels of service paid for and promised to them by their Internet service providers. Network Perspective provides enterprise customers with all the tools needed for automated analysis and collaborative problem resolution of network issues outside their firewall.

The new version of Keynote’s Network Perspective service now offers lightning fast, one-minute measurement frequency for deep Internet diagnostics and automated root-cause analysis, allowing customers to quickly isolate the root-cause of network performance issues outside their firewall. Network Perspective provides a real-world view of Internet Performance and helps e-businesses quickly identify Internet performance problems when they occur and shortens the mean time to repair.

According to Gartner, the typical Web application experiences 170 hours of downtime per year. Furthermore, Newport Group reports that it takes an average of 25 hours to resolve a Web application performance problem with an average of $18,500 lost per hour of downtime. Taking these figures into account, mean-time-to-repair (MTTR) becomes mission critical not only to customer satisfaction with the Web application, and the top-line, but also to the bottom line of an enterprise.

“Until now, strategies to manage network performance and ensure ISP service level agreement conformance tended to be primarily reactive in nature,” said Dharmesh Thakker, senior product manager for enterprise solutions at Keynote. “When an end-user experiences a performance slowdown from a critical web application, it is the enterprise, not the ISP credibility, that is at stake. ISP network issues take a significant amount of time and enterprise operational resources to provide decisive data for diagnostics, while affecting the end-user experience and other critical operational issues.”

By proactively benchmarking granular Internet latency metrics and route intelligence across various ISPs, Keynote Network Perspective enables enterprises to collaborate with the ISP to resolve performance issues, ensuring high SLA conformance, delivering a consistent user experience and optimizing operational resource utilization. Keynote Network Perspective allows customers to save time and resources by immediately identifying when a problem is Internet related. Once the source of the problem is ascertained, the customer can immediately contact the appropriate ISP to get it repaired and receive credit for any service level agreement violations.

Using a network of worldwide measurement agents, Network Perspective can determine latency, packet loss and reachability for devices like ISP peering and service routers, access routers, firewalls, load balancers and even DNS servers in the application path across multiple ISP networks. Now Network Perspective’s Private Agents located on the enterprise’s premises monitor the network metrics inside-out up to a one-minute granularity and perform trace routes every five minutes, to provide a highly realistic and accurate, bi-directional view of the ISP networks.

When the real-time performance across an ISP collected by Private Agents or Public Agents exceeds a dynamically computed threshold, network events generated alert the enterprise or even the ISP directly. Meanwhile an automated root cause analysis report delivered shortly thereafter, points out the “smoking gun” – a specific router, access gateway etc. – in the end-to-end network path. These actionable results, allow the enterprise and ISP to resolve problems, updating routing tables or re-routing across a degraded node, to restore the end-user experience quickly and cost-effectively.

The Network Perspective solution, delivered as a cost-effective service with minimal maintenance or upgrade requirements, is useful to both ISPs who need to understand the performance of their own network, and e-businesses who need to ensure that service level objectives are met.

Pricing and Availability

Network Perspective is available immediately with pricing starting at $995/ month, depending on the number of locations and private agents required.
