Keynote Streaming Perspective Selected by Microsoft and CCTV to Monitor Performance of 2008 Beijing Olympics Streaming Video

  • Keynote’s Global Test and Measurement Network Monitored the Performance of More Than Two Thousand Hours of Olympics Coverage on MSNOlympics.com on MSN
  • CCTV Selects Keynote Streaming Perspective to Monitor Olympics Video Quality in China

SAN MATEO, CALIF., — August 27, 2008 — Keynote® Systems (Nasdaq: KEYN), the global leader in on-demand mobile and Internet test & measurement solutions for continuously improving the online experience, today announced both Microsoft and CCTV selected Keynote Streaming Perspective® for robust performance monitoring of streaming video of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Keynote was selected by Microsoft to monitor the performance of 2,200 hours of streaming video of the Olympic Games on NBCOlympics.com on MSN in the U.S. as a result of Keynote’s ability to expand the Streaming Perspective product to include Microsoft Silverlight 2. Additionally, CCTV, the company that originates much of the Olympics coverage from China, also selected Keynote Streaming Perspective to ensure the protection of the copyrighted online streaming video of the Olympic Games.

The Beijing Olympics generated more streaming video, both live and on-demand, than any other event in history with a wider variety of sports delivered to more audiences than in any previous Olympics.

Silverlight, Microsoft’s cross-browser, multiplatform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications via the Web, enabled Olympics fans to not only watch and pause thousands of hours of live Olympics coverage online, but also offered rewinding and replaying capabilities for viewers to re-live historic Olympics moments or catch the technicality they may have missed.

“We are pleased to have worked with Keynote to test and monitor the performance of the Olympics video coverage streamed via Silverlight 2 on NBCOlympics.com on MSN,” said Brian Goldfarb, Group Product Manager, Developer Platforms team, Microsoft Corp. “Keynote’s deep understanding of our technology requirements and our companies’ commitment to customers helps ensure we are delivering an exceptional experience to our online viewers.”

Keynote Streaming Perspective measures the quality and reliability of streaming media the way end users experience it. With operational monitoring, performance trending and competitive benchmarking, Streaming Perspective gives users the reliable performance data needed to deliver an excellent user experience every time. From connect time to rebuffer events, Streaming Perspective provides the true picture of the audio and video stream delivery. It gives users the insight needed for infrastructure planning and provides the most effective early warning system to help resolve performance and availability issues in real time.

“We’re pleased to have worked with both Microsoft and CCTV on such a historic event,” said Umang Gupta, CEO of Keynote Systems. “This year marks the most ambitious effort to enhance and expand the experience of the Olympics by bringing thousands of hours of live streaming video online. Both Microsoft and CCTV demonstrated their commitment to the end-user experience by working with Keynote’s global test and measurement network to ensure viewers are able to enjoy their favorite Olympics moments.”

“Streaming video for the Olympics was no easy task,” said Jian Bai, manager of IPR Technic at CCTV.com. “Keynote Streaming Perspective allowed us to effectively manage the copyrighted Olympic streams and ensure our online viewers were able to experience the excitement of being the hosts of today’s greatest athletes from around the world.”
