The Keynote Startup Shootout Monthly Performance Index shows the average response times and success rates for downloading the homepage of selected startup websites from the desktop, a smartphone and a tablet. Each monthly index shows performance data collected during the first full week (Monday - Sunday) for that month.
Website performance is monitored with Keynote’s Internet Explorer (Transaction Perspective), iPhone 4 and iPad 2 (Mobile Web Perspective over Air), connected to actual ISPs and mobile networks. The startup sites that appear in this Index were selected to provide an industry benchmark for pre-IPO and up-and-coming companies.
Transaction Perspective measurements (Desktop) are taken from the ten large U.S. metropolitan areas (Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.) on high-speed links attached to key points on the large U.S. Internet Service Provider (ISP) backbones.
Mobile Web Perspective over Air measurements (smartphone & tablet) are taken on the iPhone 4 and iPad 2 from New York and San Francisco on both the AT&T and Verizon mobile networks.
