Recording Industry Association Web Site Intermittently
Available Today
Dear Industry Influencer:
The Recording Industry Association
of America's Web site at http://www.riaa.com was
only available intermittently today following the
announcement that 261 lawsuits were filed against
individuals accusing them of illegally using file-sharing
software to distribute copyrighted music online.
According to Keynote's infrastructure for measuring
Web site performance from the end user perspective,
from New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles,
Denver, and San Francisco, the RIAA Web site was
only reachable sporadically today, if at all, with
long delays likely being experienced by most users
attempting to reach the site. It appears that the
lawsuits may have triggered an onslaught of Internet
users flocking to their site for further information
about the lawsuits. The exact motive of these users
is unknown, but clearly shows a performance and availability
impact on the official RIAA site. The RIAA most likely
could have avoided these serious performance glitches
by properly load testing their Web site in anticipation
of the "flash crowds" that would be generated
by today's broad and very public action.
Please let
me know if you would like an interview or further
data regarding the RIAA's Web site performance.
