Active Testing vs. Passive Monitoring
When it comes to mobile performance monitoring there are two distinct yet complementary approaches you need to know about:
Passive Monitoring is performed on random services and customers on your network inside your corporate firewall to give you “snapshots” of network performance, but because it is random, if problems are uncovered, they can’t be replicated.
Active Testing goes further by actually sending out just like your customers would and analyzing the roundtrip performance. Active testing allows you to not only find performance problems but also to easily reproduce them so their causes can be determined and addressed.
